I never know what to expect when I start reading any of Kiersten Modglin’s books. What I do know is that I have to read the books in one sitting and I never read her books at night!! Her writing is brilliant, her storylines are riveting, and her characters jump off the page and suck you into their story. As I began reading her latest psychological thriller “The Roommate,'' I immediately felt bad for Wesley because his marriage was falling apart and his wife had thrown him out of the house. He loved his family and his job and I was secretly hoping for a happy ending. Wesley should have known better than to accept free lodging from someone he barely remembered from high school. I knew this was a bad idea from the moment he unpacked his belongings in Elias’ apartment. There was a creepiness about Elias that made me very uncomfortable and I feared for Wesley’s life every time his head hit the pillow. I was scared for Wesley because strange things were happening to him that could not be explained. I tried to piece together the clues but, as with all of Ms. Modglin’s books, she kept me guessing until the very end. I felt the walls closing in on Wesley and I was afraid he would never get away from Elias. I could only hope that Wesley would be able to free himself from Elias’s delusional behavior before it was too late. I bought this book after reading and loving “The Arrangement” by Kiersten Modglin and I was left feeling disappointed. The book is slow moving and after 147 pages not much had happened. It was at this point I couldn’t take it any longer as the style of writing started to seem incredibly unsophisticated to me. That said, I skipped over a whole bunch of pages (and chapters) and resumed reading by way of skimming until I got to the end. I’m glad I didn’t continue fully reading this book as the twists were so mild in comparison to “The Arrangement”.
