Book The Slade Brothers: A Complete Small Town Contemporary Romance Collection Review :

Alexis Winter introduces her readers to a family who love and support each other. The brothers go out into the world, but come home to support each other in the good and bad of life. Having seen the results of the poor decisions made by their father after the death of his beloved wife, the brothers learn that the love of a good woman and the support of family can save a man from himself and set him on a path of happiness.Billionaire's Unexpected Bride: Slade Brothers Book 1The Facts and Details of LoveThere is a world of difference between facts and details. Celeste Teller knows the difference as the rising star in the LA office of Mason, Lawrence and Howe Law. So, when she is offered the position of lead counsel of the firm’s Colorado office for one year, with the firm offering to cover the cost of her housing. transportation and increased salary, the fact is that she has scored a coveted promotion that will irritate several individuals in the office. But the details are the killers—the law office is located in a town on the backside of nowhere because that is the location of the primary client’s residence and business. And, that red dirt town does not have rental properties but it does have one flea-bitten motel that looks like it could be the setting for a horror movie. And, the one diner in town has limited hours to allow the staff to attend the local church services. With the nearest community located 75 miles away, Celeste has no choice but to deal with the details. With her motel room booked for the next year, she personally refits it with new bedding, rugs, mini-fridge, hot plate, microwave and tv. Now, if there were any wi-fi, she might be able to make a phone call, check her email or have internet access to GPS directions as she plots her course to the client’s residence out in the boonies for their initial meeting. The client, Drake Slade, member of the family everyone loves to hate, is also the owner and operator of the family distillery and brewery. And the genius of his grandfather, the founder of the family business and wealth that has resulted from his revisioning of how to use unproductive farm land, has set the family at odds with the town resulting from bad feelings of four neighboring families who saw the success of the Slades and sought a reason to challenge their success—a generational accusation of an unfair land grab. So, when Celeste arrives at the home of her primary client to strategize a plan to gain the desired land and county permits, Celeste realizes the fact that meeting Drake Slade is like meeting a boulder in the middle of the road—solid and not easy to move. But, to gain the needed signatures from the neighbors who are preventing the distillery’s expansion will require attention to details which means moving the boulder. And as Celeste works her magic to uncover the details of the community’s animosity towards the Slades, she also begins to work magic on uncovering the details that led to Drake’s unbending nature.Billionaire’s Unexpected Bride is the introductory novel for the Slade Brothers series. This first novel weaves a strong storyline with interesting characters and electrifying emotional connections. This first romance hints at family secrets and unresolved heartache that needs to be addressed to bring happiness and healing to the other members of the family.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my "read-again" titles.Off Limits Daddy: Slade Brothers Book 2Discovering His SoulmateColton Slade is one of the Slade brothers whose family has lived in the same small rural Colorado community for 3 generations. Now, with Milly, Colton’s 2-yr-old daughter, the family can claim 4 generations. But, for 35-year-old Colton, he does not see the hope of any future contributions from him to the family’s legacy—Ashley, his childhood sweetheart and mother of his only child, died not long after giving birth to Milly. And her death broke Colton. Ashley was his heart and soul, and while he loves and does his very best with Milly with the help of his brothers, he cannot imagine ever finding another person who could heal his broken heart.Brennan Crawford is also a generational native of the same spot of Colorado dirt. But she did leave for a while to attend college, earning her degree in music. And now the petite, green-eyed, strawberry blonde 24-yr-old is home, ready to contribute to her community as a music teacher, but there is no job. So, living at home, she is seeking a job—any job, really—that will allow her to get her own apartment. And so, she agrees to become the nanny for Colton Slade. And, the job is much more than she expected. Milly is delightful; the tasks of babysitting, cooking, cleaning the house and doing the laundry are manageable. The challenge is dealing with the surly, snappish, handsome widower and father. But Brennan is a determined to be there for Milly and her grumpy father. What Brennan is not expecting is the unannounced visit from her ex-boyfriend, Nate—the boyfriend whom she walked away from because of his mean, verbally abusive nature, who always pushed her for sex, especially when he overindulged in alcohol. And to further complicate the dynamics, Nate has sold her father on his devotion to Bre, selling the idea that the Montana born rancher’s son is seeking a ranch wife, and winning her dad’s approval by suggesting that he might even be willing to live and work Bre’s family’s land.Off Limits Daddy continues the story of the Slade Brothers series. This novel continues to weave a strong storyline with interesting characters and electrifying emotional connections. This second novel continues to follow the romantic developments of a family with secrets and unresolved heartache that needs to be addressed to bring happiness and healing to the other members of the family. Each novel can be read independently, but the Slades are so engaging that you will want to know each member and his story.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my "read-again" titles.Baby Secret: Slade Brothers Book 3A Flight from Fear to Fresh Starts and LoveAutumn Delaney is a woman who is smart enough to realize that she made a mistake when she entrusted her heart and her happiness to Glenn, the man whom she calls husband. During their 5-year-marriage, Autumn had learned to be watchful of Glenn’s drinking, his possessiveness, and his increasing control of her life—her friends, her job choice, even the decorations for the baby’s room. It took him 5 years before he raised his hand to her in anger, breaking her nose and blackening her eyes. But, she will not risk her 4-year-old, Bryce to Glenn’s growing distemper and aggression. So, she plots and plans, saving a little each month into a secret bank account, and when she learns that her father has died and left her money, she tells no one of her inheritance, but again has the money deposited in her personal secret account. She bides her time, securing the help of a neighbor and a divorce lawyer to formulate a get-away plan with a predetermined landing spot across the country in Colorado where she has purchased, sight-unseen, a farmhouse to convert into a B & B. And, on the appointed day, without warning, she packs and leaves, having her husband served with divorce papers. Now, she lives in Colorado in two connecting rooms of the Glendale Motel, which she fills with Bryce’s toys and favorite pillows to create a safe place of transition for her son and herself. She registers Bryce in the local daycare which has enrolled many of his future kindergarten classmates while she works on renovating the farmhouse on Madison Lane into a home and business—a B&B—hiring Clay Slade and his work crew to manage and execute the updating and renovation.Clay Slade, a lanky, muscular man with dirty blonde hair, and his 4 brothers are generational members of the community, owning and operating a brewery, and more recently, a distillery on the same land where their grandfather had settled his family. While all brothers benefit from the family business, Clay and the other brothers leave the day-to-day decisions of the company to the oldest brother Drake. The five brothers have learned to trust each other, but to give each other space and grace since the death of their mother while they were still children, and the benevolent neglect of their father who never recovered from her death and used a string of nannies to care for his boys. Now as adults, the brothers still work to connect and deal with the past decisions of their grieving father. When Clay meets the beautiful mom, Autumn, with her green eyes and dark wavy hair, and hears of her plans for the old farmhouse, he appreciates her desire to restore the beauty of the old place and is impressed with her desire to take a hands-on approach to the renovation. And while his interest in this mom and son team grows, he becomes aware of the danger that has apparently followed them in their flight to a new beginning—a danger that he will confront, not just to protect Autumn and Bryce, but to also claim and protect his own unborn child.Baby Secret continues the story of the Slade Brothers series. This novel continues to weave a strong storyline with interesting characters and electrifying emotional connections. This third novel continues to follow the romantic developments of a family with secrets and unresolved heartache that needs to be addressed to bring happiness and healing to the other members of the family. Each novel can be read independently, but the Slades are so engaging that you will want to know each member and his story.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my "read-again" titles.Loves Me Not: Slade Brothers Book 4Love to Last a Whole Life Long“Young love” or “puppy love” are usually the phrases used by adult observers to label the emotions of love when expressed by adolescents, but those emotions are rarely given the value of being really “in love.” So, Destiny Parker and Wyatt Slade, high school “sweethearts” or “crushes,” moved through their senior year in the haze of “love”—hanging out with another couple—Mark and Julie—enjoying the haze of love, and for the guys, that haze was with the added ingredient of alcohol, especially during their final high school days including prom and graduation. As far as Wyatt was concerned, Destiny was “the one” and with that in mind, he had already asked his father to allow him to start constructing a house on his piece of the family land. He had placed a “promise” ring on Destiny’s ring finger months earlier, and he planned on giving her “the ring” the day after prom. And, dressed for prom in his tux, the tall, lean dark-eyed Wyatt made Destiny’s heart throb and the slender, blonde-haired, blue-eyed Destiny, was Wyatt’s dream for the future. But, everything blew up when in a drunken haze Wyatt mistakenly snuggled up behind Julie whom in his haze, he mistook for Destiny who was similarly attired in a white dress, and after nuzzling her neck, he turned her for a deep kiss. Witnessing, but not understanding her guy kissing her best friend, Destiny’s worst nightmares and neurotic fears were fulfilled in that one moment, and nothing could be said by Wyatt or Julie, then or later, to convince Destiny that he had made a drunken mistake, not willfully cheating or betraying her love. And so, they parted before they even graduated. And, by the end of summer, Destiny had left for college, and Wyatt, with an engagement ring in his sock drawer and a house under construction, also left, getting a job as a roadie for an up-and-coming Indi band. And for over four years, the two young broken-hearted lovers tried to move on.And time, while not always healing, does provide perspective. Wyatt, had grown up as one of the youngest of 5 loving brothers. His mother had died before he had memory of her, and his grieving dad had tried to cope with the help of alcohol and a string of nannies to wrangle his boys. So, while “home” wasn’t picture perfect, it was home, and he was tired of roaming and seeking a way to fill the hole left in him with the absence of Destiny; so, he came home—to live and to join the family business—to be with his family. And fatefully, Destiny has also come home to support her family. Her dad has had a stroke and her mom needs help. So, with her college degree in hand, she packs up and heads home leaving behind her dreams of city life and employment. And, when she touches base with her old friend, Julie, she begins to unpack the hurt from the past, to consider other perspectives of that fateful prom night. But, the most challenging task she must confront is the fact that Wyatt is back in town, and evidently, not merely for a stopover while the band takes a break. He is back, but that doesn’t mean anything, the past is done—no do-overs—right?Loves Me Not continues the story of the Slade Brothers series. This novel continues to weave a strong storyline with interesting characters and electrifying emotional connections. This forth novel continues to follow the romantic developments of a family with secrets and unresolved heartache that needs to be addressed to bring happiness and healing to all members of the family. Each novel can be read independently, but the Slades are so engaging that you will want to know each member and his story.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my "read-again" titles.Best Friend’s Sister: Slade Brothers Book 5Running to LoveFamily is everything to the Slade brothers. While each one has pushed boundaries in the journey to affirm his goals and dreams, each has found out that ultimately, his explorations of career, life and self, have led each brother back home to Colorado, to settle on the family land, and for some, to even step back into the family business—a brewery and more recently, a distillery. Hudson Slade, the youngest brother who enlisted in the military out of high school, has finally returned, disappointed that his military career has ended early because of injury, but honorably. So, with options for his future in mind—something that is adventurous, but serving the community—the local fire department or police department—and also helping his older brothers in the family business, Hudson has returned home to settle down and to begin the next stage of his life.Family is also significant to Deven Danielle Olsen—or rather the dynamics of her family have certainly shaped her life. She and her brother spent their early years in a small town, living an idyllic life. She loved tagging after her older brother, Brad and his best friend, Hudson. But, her dad’s job change moved the family to not just a new setting, but to one without the small town supports. And with her dad’s death, and her brother’s move back to their home town, her world began to spin. And without her dad and her brother to act as a buffer, Deven’s relationship with her mother and school began to decline. So, when her mom threw her out of the house after a very difficult encounter with her mom’s boyfriend, Deven runs home—home to her brother and their small home town, looking for love.Best Friend’s Sister brings to a conclusion the story of the Slade Brothers. This novel continues to weave a strong storyline with interesting characters and electrifying emotional connections. This fifth novel continues to follow the romantic developments of a family with secrets and unresolved heartache that need to be addressed to bring happiness and healing to all members of the family. Each novel can be read independently, but the Slades are so engaging that you will want to know each member and his story.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my "read-again" titles.
UPDATED!!!!!.Well, I did finally finish it but skimmed over the last book (Hudson's story). I really wanted a HEA for him with a different girl. Deven was not a nice person. She was a tease and a slut making poor choices and was entirely too young for him. She was wrong for him and I cringed every time she opened her mouth. The side story of the other brother, in my opinion, was useless and unnecessary and was used as a word filler.******SPOILER ALERT******I am on the final book and hope that after I am done that the star rating will change. There seems to be a recurring theme in all the books. Guy meets girl, they fall in love get married, and have kids. The first book also has a common theme H has been long-suffering (years ) for a former girlfriend and wife. I mean we're talking years that they have been holding on to a former love that they proclaimed to be the love of their lives only to question that feeling once they have "touched" another woman. Then it becomes "my girlfriend/wife was not my soulmate and I was never really in love". Who does that?As for the age difference, while it might not bother some people but when you are talking about a man approaching 40 and a girl of 24, especially if she looks 16, that is a bit much for me.I'm now on the final book and the h is over the top. She is a man chaser and a slut. I'm all for women going after what they want but this just too much. She has sex with a man within about 30 minutes of talking/dancing and drinking. She throws it in his face and teases him mercilessly. "I know you liked it" "You had a good time admit it" "I want you in my bed" " we can always pick up again" "my brother won't hear" " I saw the tent you were sporting" when he came out of the shower in a towel and preceded to bend over in front of the H teasing him knowing exactly what she was doing. Although she is only 18 she certainly acts like one. No maturity or self-worth. While I'm not sure I can give her the benefit of the doubt and continue with the last story I don't want to give up on the series when I am so close to finishing.
